(Photo credit: Halifax Panthers) The Betfred Championship comes back with a bang as the Halifax Panthers travel to face the Batley Bulldogs with both sides looking to kickstart their season on a positive note. With the threat of Omicron potentially putting another year of sport in danger, it is hard to predict how the 2022 Rugby League season will look in the long run, but for now, it is all systems go. The Panthers' first game sees them making the short trip over to Mount Pleasant (Fox's Biscuit Stadium), home of the Batley Bulldogs. It will also be the fans' first chance to see Simon Grix’s newest recruits in action together in a competitive setting, follow two positive pre season friendlies against strong Super League opposition. The game comes with much anticipation as the Panthers and Batley both ended the 2021 season on 26 points, with Halifax finishing higher due to a superior score difference. Halifax Panthers suffer defeat in the Scott Grix testimonial game against Wakefield Trinity

Match report:  Halifax Panthers 24 - Wakefield Trinity 52 Halifax Panthers got their Betfred Championship pre-season underway at the Shay Stadium with the Scott Grix Testimonial game against his former club Wakefield Trinity. Today wasn’t the Panthers day as the super league outfit proved just too strong for the Championship side as the game ended 24 - 52 In Trinity’s favour. Halifax signed eleven new players in the closed season and nine of those were making their debuts in this game. Some timing issues and forced plays showed signs of this in parts.   The Panthers drew first blood as Corey Aston raced forty metres following an impressive one on one ball steal to score underneath the posts, with a Joe Keyes conversion taking the Panthers Six nil up four minutes into the game. The lead was short lived as Liam Hood scooted from acting half and burrowed his way over the line, Bradley Walker with the conversion to level up the score for Wakefield. RUGBY LEAGUE RETURNS TO THE SHAY!

(Photo credit Halifax Panthers) Sunday 16th January 2022 sees rugby league returning to the Shay with the Scott Grix testimonial game seeing the Halifax Panthers facing Wakefield Trinity 3pm KO (Photo credit Simon Hall and Halifax Panthers) Grix made eight nine appearances for Trinity over his four hundred career appearances. He won’t be the only Panther to face his former club. Joe Arundel, Kyle Wood, Adam Tangata and Titus Gwaze all had spells at Wakefield in the past, adding some tasty history to this clash. Halifax Panthers women 2022 and beyond

  2021 was a steep learning curve for the Halifax Panthers women’s team in their first season in the Championship.  The Panthers entered the league as underdogs with a rebuilt team and a new coach.  Like for many teams Covid had scuppered plans for a big pre season but they were still confident they could compete. The start of the season was a tough pill to swallow following some heavy defeats against very well drilled teams. However as time went on, and gaining valuable game experience along the way the teamwork grew and the women put in some massive team performances.   A couple of games could have gone either way and along with a couple of late additions to the squad in the second half of the season saw the Panthers in some really competitive games.  Losing their coach with 4 games to go was a blow to the women but the team dug in and assistant coach Anthony McCarthy stepped up to the role and finished the season.
