Halifax Panthers women 2022 and beyond

2021 was a steep learning curve for the Halifax Panthers women’s team in their first season in the Championship.

The Panthers entered the league as underdogs with a rebuilt team and a new coach.

Like for many teams Covid had scuppered plans for a big pre season but they were still confident they could compete.

The start of the season was a tough pill to swallow following some heavy defeats against very well drilled teams. However as time went on, and gaining valuable game experience along the way the teamwork grew and the women put in some massive team performances.

A couple of games could have gone either way and along with a couple of late additions to the squad in the second half of the season saw the Panthers in some really competitive games.

Losing their coach with 4 games to go was a blow to the women but the team dug in and assistant coach Anthony McCarthy stepped up to the role and finished the season. It wasn’t the way they wanted to finish the season but it was clear to see that massive improvements were made since the start of the season.
The women are looking forward to the 2022 season with new training and playing facilities at the newly refurbished OSCA foundation community sports hub in Ovenden.

Anthony McCarthy and Connor Matheson are taking the reigns for the new season and combining together to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the coaching team.

Building the squad is well under way and the women are looking forward to getting stuck into the pre season and hit the ground running. The last open training session takes place 15th January 10:30 - 12 at the new facility on Cousin Lane, the women are looking to bolster their squad for the coming season, the session is open to females age 16+, all experience levels welcome. to register your interest email: Halifaxrlfcwomen@gmail.com

It is an exciting time in the Panthers women camp as they look to right a few wrongs from last season and cement themselves in the Championship and push for Super League status.
