Panthers women get their season off to a winning start

  The Halifax Panthers women kick started their 2022 season campaign with an impressive victory over Wigan St Patrick’s 36-16 The hard fought victory cemented with a hat trick of tries from coaches player of the match, prop Chloe Sykes, with other tries coming from opposition player of the match Rochelle Strantham- Drake, Kirsty Hogdson, Lucy Wood and Beth Greenwood.  The game saw the Panthers facing a strong 11  women squad from Wigan due to injuries and illness. In a show of sportsmanship the ladies dropped down to match their opponents. It was Halifax that drew first blood with some quick thinking from hooker Strantham-drake getting over the white wash with her dancing feet.  The panthers possibly underestimating their opponents, Wigan quickly hit back with three tries in quick succession.  Following a quick reshuffle from Coach Ant McCarthy Halifax hit back with an impressive full length try from Lucy Wood, making her return to the squad from injury.  The women finished the 1st hal

Halifax Panthers women's young guns make their mark in open age

The Halifax Panthers women are looking to start their season with a bang on Sunday with a home fixture against Wigan St Pats.   The women have played two cup games before the start of the season. Despite two strong performances from the women, sadly they did not come away with the spoils but have their eyes firmly set on the league.     The first game saw four of their youngest recruits making their debut for the Panthers, three of which played their first ever open aged game.   16 year old winger Erin Benson joined the women’s team from Queensbury U16’s.  On making her debut she had this to say.   “ I was very nervous at the beginning but everyone talked me through everything and was cheering me on, I felt very happy and proud to be playing for the team. The open age training is harder and a lot more demanding, but a lot better and a lot of fun”   Erin made a great contribution to the game in defence and held her own on the wing, she has speed on her side and is tipped to be one t

Try high returns for the Easter Holidays

  Try High children's camps return for the Easter holidays Try High rugby league camps for children in Calderdale return for the Easter holidays. Running from April 11-14, they consist of two camps at Trinity Academy and Warley Road Academy for children aged 7-11 years old. Try High is a partnership project led by Invictus Well-being, Halifax Panthers and Calderdale Community Squash. It aims to get children active and try new things, including cooking, bushcraft, rugby league, squash and mental wellbeing. The camps are funded by  Calderdale Council  and The Community Foundation for Calderdale to provide children with a holiday camp like no other. Halifax Panthers Community Engagement Officer Jack Duffy said: "We saw this as a fantastic platform to begin this project and approached other community groups to join to ensure that we could provide a well-rounded and polished program that would not only give a sporting experience but would also enrich the lives of children that need
